My Story

Although my career path wasn't always clear, I knew I wanted to help people and try to make a difference in their lives. After my children started school, I got my teaching certificate and began working as an ESL instructor. For over 15 years, I worked with newcomer adults to Canada, helping them learn the language, the culture, and adjusting to life in Canada. The rewards of this job were plenty, however, I knew there was much more I could be doing to help people on a deeper, more personal level.

I decided to become a volunteer at a crisis centre in my community to see if this kind of helping felt like a good fit. It was there that I decided to make the switch from teacher to counsellor. Today, I find that same reward working with my clients by helping them develop better emotional and cognitive skills, working to improve relationships, supporting their goals, and helping them gain an understanding and compassion for themselves.

My Work

I work with individuals who are experiencing anxiety, depression, or burnout related to work, interpersonal relationships, trauma, or life transitions. There are so many challenges we face as we go through life, and sometimes we can feel very alone in this. It would be my privilege to walk alongside you on your journey.

I specialize in working with couples using Emotionally-Focused Couples Therapy (EFT) and The Gottman Method. I help couples with concerns such as communication, intimacy, addiction, infidelity, and separation. Using trusted training techniques, I help couples recognize unhelpful cycles in the relationship and work on strengthening attachment bonds. This leads to greater communication and connection.

Mission Statement

As a couples counsellor, I am deeply passionate about helping clients invest in their relationships, especially those with or planning to have families. Research and common sense tell us that a healthy family dynamic is crucial for children's success in their formative years and future relationships. This environment is where children learn about relationships, gain a sense of safety and belonging, and build a foundation for self-esteem, which is vital for mental health.

I believe there is no greater investment than fostering a healthy family dynamic. Often, I can motivate clients to commit to the work and set aside their differences for the sake of their children. Even when couples struggle to make their relationship work, their shared love for their children can inspire civility and cooperation. This aspect of my work moves and motivates me more than anything else, as I see it as a societal duty to support families in creating a nurturing and stable environment for their children.
